Historias de Ayer y Hoy
Community Opening @ Kimball Art Center
Friday, June 8 → 6-8PM

Historias de Ayer y Hoy (Stories of Yesterday and Today) is a free exhibition which features the work of nine Latino artists living in Utah. Painting, photography, sculpture, and installation come together to present a diverse and dynamic collection of stories about community, culture, celebration, and conversation.

The exhibit is presented in partnership with The Christian Center of Park City and accompanies the 3rd Annual Latino Arts Festival. It will be on display until July 8, 2018.

Plein Air “Paint-Out”
Saturday, June 9 → 3 – 6 PM

Join Gallery MAR for a Plein Air “Paint-Out” at the June Garden Stroll at Park City Nursery. Artists will set up their easels and blank canvases in the garden and begin to paint at 3 p.m. Summer refreshments from local vendors and live vocals from Nicole Paradiso will add to the ambiance as you stroll the gardens and watch the artists create their work.

YMCA Open House @ Camp Roger
Saturday, June 9 → 9A-2P

A free day full of family fun at Camp Roger! Enjoy horseback rides, face painting, archery, mountain biking, sports, arts & crafts, mountain biking, archery, and more. All ages are invited, and you’ll have the chance to meet the 2018 summer staff. Camp Roger is a weeklong overnight summer camp which allows kids ages 6 – 17 to develop outdoor skills and to experience summer camp for the first time.

~MOVE~

The Park City Trail Series is a terrific way to explore trail running.

Park City Trail Series 5K
Saturday, June 9 → 8 AM

The Park City Trail Series is a fun (and dog-friendly!) way to be introduced to the sport of trail running. The series begins with a 5K on Saturday, with three additional (and increasing) longer races each month. All of the races are held on the Round Valley Trails, and runners are welcome to bring their pups along for the race (they begin in the final wave).

The races are scheduled as follows:

  • 5K →  Saturday, June 9
  • 10K →  Saturday, July 14
  • 15K →  August 11
  • 13.1 miles → September 15

Guided Historical Hike @ Deer Valley Resort
Sunday, June 10 → 8:30 AM

Enjoy the gorgeous landscape of Deer Valley Resort with a guided historical hike on Sunday morning. The three-to-four hour hike will cover about six miles of moderately strenuous terrain – all while you learn about the area’s mining history. Participants should meet at the base of the Sterling Express chairlift (mid-mountain at Silver Lake Lodge). Reservations are required, along with a $10 fee. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and proper sun protection (and bring along plenty of water and snacks!). To reserve your spot, you’re asked to call 435-645-6648.

~SEE~

RBG @ Jim Santy Auditorium (Park City Library Building)
Friday & Saturday → 8 PM
Sunday → 6 PM (panel to follow)

The documentary “RBG” is this weekend’s Park City Film Series selection.

At the age of 85, Ruth Bader Ginsburg has become a truly unexpected pop culture icon – all while developing a breathtaking legal legacy. RBG is a  documentary which takes you on the unique personal journey (called a “fist-bumping, crowd-pleasing doc” by Indiewire) of this quiet warrior and her rise to the nation’s highest court.

On Sunday, there will be a post-film panel with Utah Supreme Court Justice Paige Peterson, University of Utah Law Professor Erika George, and ACLU of Utah Legislative and Policy Counsel Marina Lowe. KPCW News Director Leslie Thatcher will moderate.

PARK CITY FILM SERIES
The Park City Film Series is a nonprofit organization presenting the best of independent feature, documentary, world and local cinema. Our mission is to create community through film.

Al Jardin @ The Egyptian Theatre
Friday & Saturday → 8 PM
Sunday → 6 PM

Al Jardin’s mini-tour, “From the Very First Song with a Founding Member of the Beach Boys,” features songs and stories from the early days of The Beach Boys all the way through Al’s most recent solo album, “A Postcard from California.” He’ll be joined by his son, Matt Jardine, and Jeff Alan Ross. We’re told there will be lots of chances for Q & A, too!

Improvised Fairy Tales @ Park City Library
Saturday, June 9 → 3 – 4 PM

More family fun at Park City Library on Saturday, when Park City Improv will turn your favorite fairy tales on their head. We’re excited (and a little bit nervous?) for this one.

~SHOP~

Native Plant Sale @ Recycle Utah
Saturday,
June 9 → 9 – 11 AM

Recycle Utah will host a native plant sale tomorrow morning, with drought-tolerant plants available for your garden. All plants are supplied by southern Utah nurseries (which specialize in xeriscaping and low-maintenance landscaping), and were brought here by Park City Nursery. Native plants conserve water with improved soil retention – and less water is required for maintenance. Learn more about all the work Recycle Utah does to improve and protect our community HERE.

The Park City Farmers Market has a brand-new location this year.

~UPCOMING EVENTS~

Wednesdays → 12 – 5 PM (rain, snow, or shine)
June 13 – October 10, 2018

The Park City Farmers Market moves to the base of Park City Mountain Resort this year! The seasonal market is open for business each Wednesday and features a large selection of fresh, local goods. Stop by and stock up on just-picked produce, freshly-baked bread, and arts & crafts from local producers and vendors.

Park City Nonprofit Highlight: Recycle Utah

June 7, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

Recycle Utah provides community-based resources and solutions (photo courtesy: Recycle Utah).

Park City & Summit County:
Committed to a Sustainable Community

A huge part of why Park City is such a wonderful place to build a life is the focus on sustainability. The effort to embrace best sustainability practices is led by our municipality. In fact, the Park City City Council lists it on the critical priority list and has set one of the most ambitious climate goals in  North America: to be net-zero carbon and run on 100% renewable energy for city operations by 2022, and the entire community by 2032.

Park City Municipal has set very high-impact goals for sustainability.

Summit County, too, has created high-impact goals, with the aim to be 100% net renewable energy by 2032 for all Summit Co. government operations, and to make renewable electrical energy available and broadly adopted by all residents and businesses by the same year.

Thanks to city and county leadership, and dedicated sustainability teams, our community will reap the benefits for generations to come.

Boots on the Ground

The plan is one thing – the execution is another. And, while Summit County provides curbside recycling to all residents, there is a mountainous amount of waste which cannot be put in your bin – but *should* be recycled.

Enter Recycle Utah (aka, The Park City Conservation Association)! The visionary group has served Summit County since 1991 with the mission to empower people to lead sustainable lives – and the ultimate vision of a zero waste plan for Summit County.

Recycle Utah sees double-digit percentage increases in participation year after year.

Why Recycle?

Simply put – It’s about our groundwater, which is a critical component of our environment and, of course, our public health. What goes into the trash → leaches into our groundwater at the landfill → impacts our drinking water. To avoid toxins landing in the landfill in the first place – hit up Recycle Utah.

Not only does the Recycle Utah center (located on Woodbine Way) provide a place for you to take items like glass, styrofoam, plastic bags, batteries, and e-waste, it has an entire department dedicated to active education.

Education, Empowerment & CSAs

In an effort to provide community-based resources – and solutions – Recycle Utah conducts on-site environmental education, leads the Green Business Program, and facilitates composting workshops at the center (did you know – composting can easily decrease your garbage pile by as much as 30%?!).

Recycle Utah also supports Community Supported Agriculture – known as CSAs – by serving as a pick-up center for shareholders. This means CSAs like Bell Organic Gardens and Farmers Next Door drop off boxes of their lovely local produce at the Park City location each week, and residents who have bought in for the growing season simply zip over to pick up their share.

Recycling Services

Because of its efforts, Recycle Utah prevents 200 TONS of valuable materials from wasting in the landfill. And this is not per year. This is 200 tons – per month. The center accepts more than 50 different items for re-use, or hazmat treatment. Check out the list of acceptable items HERE.

Impact

In 2017 alone – Recycle Utah had approximately 400 visitors to the center each day, and collected:

  • 832 tons of glass
  • 188 tons of metal
  • 98 tons of plastic
  • 7.2 tons of Styrofoam
  • 624 tons of paper and cardboard

The grand total of materials recycled adds up to 3,496,000 pounds (1,748 tons)!

Upcoming Events | How to Support Recycle Utah

Support local businesses while you save water at the native plant sale this weekend.

Native Plant Sale
On Saturday, June 9, Recycle Utah will host a native plant sale from 9 – 11 a.m., where you can purchase drought-tolerant plants for your garden. All plants will be supplied by southern Utah nurseries (which specialize in xeriscaping and low-maintenance landscaping), and brought here by Park City Nursery. Native plants conserve water with improved soil retention – so less water is required for maintenance.

Uncorked
The 7th Annual Uncorked outdoor concert will be held on Friday, June 29. All proceeds will go to fund glass recycling collection. A $7 ticket gives you access to live music and food, with beverages available for purchase.

Drink Green & Shop
All year-round, you can shop green. Items like composters, reusable tote and produce bags, and biodegradable dog poo bags are for sale in the center shop.

If meeting for drinks is more your speed, Recycle Utah facilitates Green Drinks. These are gatherings held on the second Tuesday of every other month for eco-conscious people to get together to talk and learn from local leaders about sustainability, environmental, and social issues.

Land preservation and sustainability are a very important part of life at The Colony at White Pine Canyon, where approximately 90% of our 4600 acres will be preserved as open space, thanks to conservation easements. We’re grateful for the visionary leadership of Recycle Utah and its steady work to improve and preserve our singular quality of life here in the mountains of Park City, Utah.

If you have a nonprofit you’d like us to highlight, please email Molly@theColonyWPC.com.

Perfection Has A New Address: The Colony

Our new Summer 2018 advertisement features one of The Colony’s most magnificent homesteads. Created by Upwall Design, and brought to life by Midway Construction Company, this home is a pure mountain masterpiece. Watch for this gorgeous ad on Facebook and Instagram, as well as in print editions of Park City Magazine and Western Home Journal.

About Us

The Colony at White Pine Canyon is a development unlike any other in the world. With our commitment to open space and a less-is-more philosophy, we set the standard for on-mountain living. Approximately 90% of our 4600 acres will be preserved in perpetuity as open land, thanks to protection from conservation easements.

Mid-Mountain Trail is one of a network which runs through The Colony.

Every single one of our homesites is ski-in | ski-out, and when the snow melts, a network of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails is revealed. One of our favorites, the Mid-Mountain Trail, spans 26 miles and connects The Colony to Park City Mountain and Deer Valley Resort, and finishes at Utah Olympic Park.

The Colony is closely connected with our Park City, Utah community, but trust us when we say, if you live here, it feels like your own world.

The Final Chapter

We are entering our final chapter here at The Colony, with the recent release of our Phase 5 Meadow Lakes homesites. Of the 13 homesites released, seven are already under contract or sold – which means just six are still available under the current release. These homesites surround the upper meadow and are all nestled among old-growth forests, with lakes, streams, and waterfalls nearby.

Lakes, streams, and waterfalls dot the upper meadow homesites.

Connect With Our Team

Connect with us to set up your own tour of this incredible community – and start building your legacy here at The Colony at White Pine Canyon. Bronson Calder and Stephen Jeffers, our Colony team, are available, on-site, seven days a week. They serve as local experts and are always available to you as a resource and to answer questions, whether they are real-estate related or not.

The Colony Gives Back

March 14, 2018 by Colony PR

Giving back to our local community is one of the most rewarding feelings we can have. The Colony, including residents and agents, believe in the credo of “doing well, by doing good.” Last week two of our agents, Bronson Calder and Kurt Peterson, spent an hour on KPCW radio to raise funds for the station during KPCW’s Winter Pledge Drive. They were able to raise funds that keep non-profit community stations on the air.

If you are looking for ways to participate in a philanthropic sense in your Park City community, here are a few of the organizations The Colony works with to support and further their missions.

KPCW Community Radio Connection
On-air since 1980, the aforementioned KPCW (91.9 FM Radio) reaches 73% of all adults in the Summit and Wasatch counties of Utah at least once a week, twelve times more than any other radio station in the area. KPCW also “streams” its programs via its website to listeners around the world. Tune into KPCW for local information and stay tuned for annual pledge drive information with The Colony as an on-air sponsor. KPCW radio is a non-profit, volunteer supported organization whose mission is to educate, inform, entertain and provide access to a diverse community with quality local, national and international programming.

Peace House
Peace House is a non-profit organization located in Park City, Utah, established in 1995. Through education, shelter and support services, Peace House empowers women to break the cycle of domestic violence in their own lives and those of their children. Peace House also reaches out to individuals and groups within the service area of Summit and Wasatch Counties with education and awareness programs to help break the cycle of domestic violence in communities.

Mountain Trails Foundation
Mountain Trails Foundation promotes and preserves trail access for all non-motorized users and maintains the robust trail system in the Park City area. This includes the acclaimed 26-mile “Mid-Mountain Trail,” which runs through The Colony and has been designated an “Epic Trail” by the International Mountain Biking Association. The Colony promotes trail access for public and private use and is proud to support MTF.

Youth Winter Sports Alliance
The Mission of The Alliance is to support winter sports activities for youth in Summit and Wasatch counties, promoting good sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles through participation, education, and competition. The Colony supports YWSA through their annual fundraiser event each autumn.

People’s Health Clinic
People’s Health Clinic is a non-profit, primary care facility that provides high-quality medical services to uninsured individuals and families in Summit and Wasatch Counties. Patients are seen by appointment, and a donation is requested at each visit, yet no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Park City: The Home of Past, Present and Future Olympic Athletes

February 20, 2018 by Colony PR

The 2002 Olympic Winter Games were officially held in Salt Lake City. Ask any fellow local where the Games were held and they will respond with “Park City!” Which makes sense, since most alpine skiing events were held at our two resorts, as well as bobsled, luge, and skeleton, along with Nordic jumping over the Olympic Park. Plus, all the cross-country events took place just around the corner at Soldier Hollow in Midway.

Our local newspaper, The Park Record, published an excellent article highlighting the legacy of the Games: a tradition our town carries on today.

The venues that began opening in the early nineties ushered in an era where athletes from across the world would relocate to Park City to train, Take for example gold medalists Nikki Stone and Eric Bergous, who both won gold in 1998 after relocating from Boston and Montana, respectively.

This makes complete sense since Park City was one of two American towns with bobsled, luge and skeleton tracks, but we also had alpine skiing and Nordic facilities, including a pool, for athletes to train.

Fast forward to 2002 where Park City locals had a front row seat to the Games, which included medaling performances by Shannon Barhke, Jonny Moseley, and Travis Mayer. Local children left the Game inspired to try the same sports, launching a new crop of Olympic athletes.

Do you recognize the names Ted Ligety, Joss Christensen, and Sage Kotsenburg? Yes, they all have gold medals in common. But they are also each a product of our Park City community. We’re proud to call this gold medal town our home.

The Park Record does a great job of chronicling the newest crop of Park City athletes, such as Madison Olsen, who will compete in PyeongChang. The legacy of 2002 lives on through the dreams and accomplishments of our local athletes like Madison. And keep an eye out for familiar faces on the podium – there is a good chance they are one of our neighbors!
