Park City Nonprofit Highlight: Park City Institute

July 18, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

PARK CITY INSTITUTE
Park City Institute, originally known as the Park City Performing Arts Foundation, was founded in 1998, to bring world-class performances and new ideas to the Park City community (photo courtesy: Park City Institute). This year is its 20th year of doing just that – it finds incredibly thought-provoking speakers and delightful performers and puts them in front of our community at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center stage.

PCI’s concert series, now in its 15th consecutive year, was a study in problem-solving after Deer Valley threw a huge curveball this spring. After 14 years of holding its events at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, DV informed Park City Institute its  St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Night Concerts Series would need to find a new home – just months before the 15th season was to begin.

An orderly scramble ensued, and a solution was manifested: pop-up concert events! The rest of this season’s shows will be held at the Quinn’s Junction Recreation Complex* (Grace Potter was held at City Park). The challenges didn’t stop there, however, as the location didn’t have parking – or any nearby concession options. PCI kept leaping those hurdles and came up with free luxury shuttles for those who park at the Eccles Center at Park City High School and Richardson Flat. And, for the ever-important food, they coordinated their brilliant Food Truck Court. (*UPDATE: On Friday, July 27, Park City City Council approved the request to move all remaining summer concerts to City Park; all other details remain the same.)

The Riverhorse Provisions Food Truck is pretty darn cute. Photo courtesy: Park City Institute

FOOD TRUCK COURT
If you ask us, the quality of the selection at the Food Truck Court alone is a draw to attend these PCI pop-ups! Check out who parks at each party:

Riverhorse Provisions
You can pre-order picnics for the Big Stars, Bright Nights events from Riverhorse Provisions’ adorable food truck (well, really, for any occasion, but you can pick them up on-site at PCI’s pop-ups). Choose from the Southern Basket with fried chicken and creamy macaroni salad, the Falafel Box with falafel and tabbouleh, the Seafood Pack with shrimp cocktail and pasta salad – we could go on and on, but don’t make us because seriously, we’re getting hungry.

Best lobstah roll in Park City… and beyond! Photo courtesy: Bubba Brown/Park Record

Freshie’s Lobster Co.
Park-City born-and-based Freshie’s is the home of the best lobster roll in the world, and those lobster rolls are up for grabs at each Big Stars, Bright Nights concert! The rolls come in three sizes, the Tourist, for those who only want 2 oz of fresh Maine lobster (just curious whether that size has ever been sold…), the Real Mainah, with 4 oz., and the XL, with 5 oz. of the good stuff. Ayuh.

Spencer’s Smokin’ Grill
Now, if you’re more in the mood for BBQ – head on over to Spencer’s. Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, BBQ Beans, Dirty Rice, Tri-Tip, and, of course, Cornbread can be found here. Few things could be more fun than a full rack at a concert.

Praise Cheezus Gourmet Grilled Cheese
This one is pretty self-explanatory – toasty, gooey, delicious grilled cheese! From savory cheezus choices (The Old Testament concoction has gouda, cheddar, swiss, and garlic cream cheese spread), to sweet cheezus (The Trinity has brie, triple berry compote, and wild honey) – these grilled cheese sandwiches are practically a spiritual experience.

In formation.

Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream Company
Speaking of spiritual experiences, whatever you do while you’re at the events, *do not* miss the Wasatch Creamery ice cream bike. Flavors like Salted Oreo (do not even come near us with that because we cannot stop eating it), Lavender Blueberry, Peaches-n-Buttermilk, Peaches-n-Bourbon, Summer Strawberry (the most fresh thing we’ve ever tasted in our entire life), and Mango Sorbet, along with TONS of others, with more constantly being beta tested, are available at this station while supplies last.

Of course, attendees are always welcome to pack picnics, snacks, and beverages (you’re asked to avoid glassware for safety reasons), but with these world-class options *right there,* why bother?

THE SHOWS
Upcoming shows include Monday’s Chris Blue concert, Corinne Bailey Rae, and The Wallflowers. If you’d like to attend any of these upcoming events, you can buy tickets online, call or visit the Eccles Center Box Office (435-655-3114), or buy tickets at the on-site box office on the afternoon of the event.

Small Business Highlight: Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream Co.

July 15, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

It’s true — living in The Colony at White Pine Canyon feels like its own world: Ski-in, ski-out access from private homes nestled in the heart of North America’s largest ski resort, breathtakingly beautiful open lands which make life here feel like we are in our own national park, and an incredible collection of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails networking from our doorsteps in warm-weather months.

Another large part of what makes life so special here at The Colony is the connection we have to our local Park City community. Our town is assiduous, active, and incredibly altruistic (there are more than 100 nonprofits based here, too), and we get to enjoy all of the wonderful opportunities and experiences which result!

SMALL BUSINESS SUNDAY
For our first Small Business Sunday highlight, in honor of National Ice Cream Day, we’re going to take a peek at Wasatch Creamery* Ice Cream Co. This company, owned and operated by Kris Tart, creates some of the most surprisingly delightful ice cream flavors you’ll ever find; selections like Brown Butter, Salted Oreo, Ginger Lime, Lavender Blueberry, and Basil & Blackberry, with new flavors being sampled and refined all the time.

As a general rule, a lot of the benefit of supporting local food businesses is you know right where your food comes from. And not only does this mean it tastes better, it can also make you healthier. Because the food is *right here* – it’s fresher, which means it maintains more nutrients, and you can easily learn the conditions the food is created in. And while, yes, we know, ice cream isn’t exactly known for being healthy – you’re gonna eat it anyway, so you might as well make the best selection possible! But, we digress.

Homemade ice cream base: *also* good enough to eat with a spoon.

Here’s the deal – each batch of Wasatch Creamery ice cream begins with a base created from locally-sourced milk and cream, organic sugar, and eggs. As founder Kris Tart says, “no stabilizers, no preservatives, no funny business.” In fact, Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream Company is one of the few in the country which uses a homemade ice cream base. It sources its milk and cream hyper-locally, from Rosehill Dairy, to ensure the very highest quality. And believe us (we’ve tried it), the base is good enough to eat on its own.

ICE CREAM INSIGHT
Why is Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream so darn delicious? It has to do with something called “overrun,” or, the amount of air in the ice cream. The industry standard is 50% — (one part air to every two parts cream). Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream is spun to have just 30% – the lowest you are likely to ever enjoy. It’s the technical reason the ice cream tastes so crazy creamy.

PAW PINTS
Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream Co. was developed in Park City. And, in true Park City (or should we say Bark City) style, Kris has a love for pups. This love inspired her to create puppy ice cream, and a local naming contest yielded the name Paw Pints. Made of organic yogurt, chicken stock, and bacon, this frozen treat is also available wherever you can find the human versions.

Fillin’ hearts and cones across the Wasatch Front & Back.

GET YOUR HANDS ON A CONE
All of the ice cream is homemade and handmade in Heber, Utah and is available at the Park City and Salt Lake City Farmers’ Markets, Park Silly Sunday Market, St. Regis’ Big Stars, Bright Nights Concert Series (programmed by Park City Institute), Twisted Fern, Victory Ranch, Copper Moose Farm, and Campos Coffee, with additional availability to be announced soon.

*Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream Co. is a client of Miller Media & Communications, which created the content for this blog post.

Park City Event Guide: July 13 – 15, 2018

July 13, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

Ok. Yeah. This week has been HOT. For those of us who are lucky enough to live in Park City, the need for air conditioning can be a rude awakening, and, since many of us up here don’t have air conditioning, this can make a few people just a little, tiny, teeny bit grumpy.

Luckily, the weekend has arrived, and with it, some of the most fun events to experience in Park City this summer season. Maybe we’ll see you out there this weekend. Watch for us. We’ll be the ones trailing the Wasatch Creamery Ice Cream Co. bike, re-filling our ice cream cone nonstop to keep cool, and loving every minute of it.

Sales Update | Summer 2018

July 10, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

Land and home sales at The Colony over the past 12 months tell a pretty incredible story – take a few moments to watch our Summer 2018 Sales Update video (below) for an outline. Things continue to move quickly here – in fact, in the time it took to produce this video, two additional lots have closed, and a third homesite – as well as a home – are under contract.

Connect with Bronson Calder and Stephen Jeffers, members of the in-house Colony Sales Team with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Utah, to begin building your legacy at The Colony!

A Colony Sales Team Announcement

July 10, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

The Colony is pleased to congratulate Bronson Calder, Kurt Peterson, and Stephen Jeffers of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, on their expanded leadership roles at The Colony at White Pine Canyon. Our longtime listing agent, Bob Marsh has elected to relinquish his role as our principal Colony listing agent and Bronson has assumed the lead position on our expanded Colony team, which includes Kurt, Stephen, Bob, and Cindy Salrin.

Bob Marsh and developer Walt Brett conducted an extensive search to find experts who share the philosophy that has made The Colony such a special ski-in, ski-out community. Bronson, Kurt, and Stephen’s enthusiasm, expertise and deep knowledge of Park City and The Colony make them the perfect team to continue The Colony legacy.

The Colony Sales Team
Bronson Calder was born and raised in Park City, steeped in his family’s real estate tradition. Nearly 20 years ago, Bronson formed a business partnership with long-time colleague, Kurt Peterson. The Peterson-Calder Real Estate Group has consistently been in the top 1% of Park City’s agents, with more than 800 transaction sides and approximately $600 million sold.

Stephen Jeffers hails from Lake Tahoe, California. After college, he elected to build on his family’s real estate legacy in the Tahoe/Reno area. Stephen joined The Colony team in 2017 and feels honored to represent our project. He is a descendant of the Condas family, the original landowners of The Colony at White Pine Canyon.

Cindy Salrin got her real estate license in 2008 and has enjoyed her job as a licensed assistant for the past 10 years. Being ensconced in the majestic setting of The Colony makes it easy for her to love her job here – lucky for us because she keeps the entire team together.

Going forward, as Bronson leads the team, he’ll have the benefit of Bob Marsh’s expertise and institutional knowledge. After nearly 20 years of intense focus on building The Colony brand, Bob will switch from overseeing the day-to-day operations to the listing of properties within The Colony. It has been fascinating for Bob to watch this project grow from its humble beginning into what it has become today. Bob’s passion for The Colony continues, and knowing that he will remain on our team providing support and continued involvement with the project and sales team is very reassuring.

Connect with Us
Please reach out to Bronson and the team anytime. They have a presence in The Colony offices 7 days a week. Utilize their knowledge for any questions you may have about our project – real-estate related or not. They are your most knowledgeable and trusted sources for information about this incredible community. We also invite you to follow updates on our website and on our social channels: Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Sincerely,
Walt Brett and The Colony Team

And on the last Thursday of each month, there’s a free BBQ and adult beverages, provided by local vendors, at the end of the ride. Weekly bike rides through August 30.
