The Colony at White Pine Canyon

Park City, Utah Real Estate | Home Sites and Custom Homes

Winter 2018 | 2019 @ The Colony

April 16, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

An EPIC Ski Season

The snow this winter at The Colony at White Pine Canyon was nothing short of spectacular. Park City Mountain’s 350+ inches of snow almost doubled the total snowfall for last year! For homeowners in The Colony, the ski day begins and ends at the front door, so this year’s epic snowfall meant first tracks all winter long. In fact, the amount of time it takes to get out on a powder day here depends on how long you linger over your morning latte.

ALL-ACCESS PASS

Access, privacy, and open space are among the elements which set The Colony at White Pine Canyon apart. For those who live here, directly in the heart of one of the largest ski and snowboard resort in the United States, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and more are right at your doorstep. It’s no wonder that people say coming home to The Colony feels like a true departure.

First Light over The Colony at White Pine Canyon

The Colony community is a private one, set in the middle of Park City Mountain. The skiing is called epic for a reason: There are more than 7,300 acres of winter magic in-bounds. By the numbers, that’s 348 trails, 41 lifts, 13 bowls, 8 terrain parks, 2 ski villages (Park City Mountain Village and Canyons Village), 1 superpipe, and 1 mini pipe. One final number to consider: The Colony boasts more than 50% of the Canyons Village terrain within its boundaries →that’s what we call an all-access pass!

Historic Main Street in Park City, Utah

A final word about access: The Colony is just 35 miles from Salt Lake International Airport, and 22 miles from Heber Valley Airport, which is perfect for those with a private jet. Once you arrive, you’re a mere five miles to Park City’s Historic Main Street, home to the Sundance Film Festival and world-class dining and shopping.

BUILD YOUR LEGACY AT THE COLONY

Today, The Colony is writing its final chapter, with progress unfolding in the fifth of five phases – the Meadow Lakes lots. Overall, there are just 27 homesites available, priced from $1.9 to $5.5 million, including our newest mountain-top gems, The Dream Lots. All of them boast commanding views, old-growth forests, and unique private ski access.

Summer in the Meadow Lakes

There’s no question that The Colony at White Pine Canyon feels like its own world; its access, privacy, and open spaces are incomparable. But the duality of that access also contributes to the singularity of The Colony experience. Its proximity to all that Park City has to offer provides homeowners the luxury of quickly connecting with the community and participating in whichever elements of city life they choose, with the knowledge that their private mountain retreat is just moments away.

Connect with Bronson Calder, Director of Sales, to begin to build your legacy (or to buy one already custom-made) in The Colony at White Pine Canyon.

Park City FIlm: “If Beale Street Could Talk”
8 PM @ Jim Santy Auditorium | Park City Library
Sunday @ 6 PM
From the Park City Film website:

“Set in early 1970s Harlem, this is a timeless and moving love story of both a couple’s unbreakable bond and the African-American family’s empowering embrace, as told through the eyes of 19-year-old Tish Rivers.

A daughter and wife-to-be, Tish vividly recalls the passion, respect, and trust that have connected her and her artist fiancé. Friends since childhood, the devoted couple dream of a future together but their plans are derailed when he is arrested for a crime he did not commit. Based on a book by James Baldwin, the story takes place in a racially biased world in which the filmmaker poetically shows how love and humanity endure.

‘This movie works as a timeless romance, a family drama, a legal thriller and a poignant social commentary. A great American novel has been turned into a great American film.’ -Chicago Sun Times”

ONGOING EXHIBITS

Sue Flood: Cold Places Photography
Main Gallery @ Kimball Art Center
Through April 7
From the Kimball Art Center website:
“ In striking and poignant images, Sue Flood takes us to Earth’s coldest places. Flood has made numerous journeys to Antarctica and the Arctic, yet her sense of awe in these remote lands never fades. From the boundless charm of penguins to the grandeur of vast ice shelves, she captures moments of intense drama and epic beauty.”
~

Paul Crow: On Ice
Café Gallery @ Kimball Art Center
Through April 7
From the Kimball Art Center website:
“The month I was born, the first Nimbus satellite was launched, taking images of polar ice as it began its work. From that September in 1964 to September 2012, the ice coverage in the Arctic has fallen by half. And the ice is thinner.

Ice sheets are expanses of glacier ice covering surfaces of land and free water greater than 50,000 square kilometers. The only ice sheets now on earth are in Greenland and Antarctica. Antarctica loses a hundred cubic kilometers of ice each year. New icebergs are born of melting glaciers, breaking free into the open ocean. Sea levels rise.

Ice is a time capsule, storing bits of creatures, traces of gasses and waters from prior earths. Some of it dead, some of it not quite. In the year that I was born, scientists began tracking the long-term ice record of the Arctic lake Kilpisjärvi at the northwestern tip of Finland, not far from the point where the borders of Sweden, Norway, and Finland meet. Typically frozen for eight months of the year, Lake Kilpisjärvi has frozen an average of 2.3 days later each decade since 1964, and in each of those decades, the lake has seen a decrease of an average of 3.4 days of total ice cover.”  –Paul Crow

~

Lines with Power and Purpose
Tozer Gallery @ Park City Museum
Through March 9
From the Park City Museum website:
“On a daily basis, editorial cartoonists deliver biting social commentary made palatable through amusing and well-crafted illustration. Lines with Power and Purpose: Editorial Cartoons features over forty original editorial cartoons from the nation’s great metropolitan newspapers during the Golden Age of print journalism. Included in the mix are six Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonists, each demonstrating the theme of political commentary through editorial illustrations and addressing issues from the first half of the twentieth century.

These deceptively simple drawings frame the public’s understanding of early-to-mid twentieth-century world events and trends ranging from the two world wars, the great depression, public discontent with the US government, presidential elections, daily battles regarding work-related rejection, nostalgia for homespun neighborhood charm in the Midwest, and more. Along the way, these cartoons served a dualistic intention: to provide welcomed comic relief as well as shape opinion.”

Small Business Highlight: Silver Star Ski & Sport

January 6, 2019 by Shelby Hintze, Colony PR

Park City is well known for our outdoor activities—skiing and snowboarding in the winter, mountain biking and hiking in the summer. Also well-known: these aren’t cheap hobbies to have. There are a lot of upfront costs to starting up a new outdoor sport. And then what if — heaven forbid — you don’t end up liking it? To avoid that, renting your gear is your best bet. There are lots of places to get gear in Park City but today, we’re highlighting “one of the last of the little guys,” Silver Star Ski and Sport, which humbly calls itself “The Greatest Shop on the Planet!”

Silver Star opened in 2008 to support the Silver Star Development and is planted at the base of the Silver Star Chairlift – directly across from the fabulous Silver Star Cafe. In fact, just this past December, the store held an official celebration for its tenth anniversary. Owned by husband and wife team of Todd and Kate Fischer, the shop specializes in gear for every outdoor activity, no matter the time of year.

The store highlights its customer service and provides high-end rentals and demos for everything you need to ski, snowboard, snowshoe, mountain bike, cruiser bike, and paddleboard. Not only that – it has a graduated rental program for the littlest skiers, a hit with the locals, for those who frequently outgrow the smallest of skis and boots. It also sells apparel and accessories, and even hosts community events like weekly cruiser bike rides and BBQ on summer evenings.

On top of that, the staff can help you tune up and maintain any of your own equipment to make sure you get the best experience possible on the mountain. On its website, Silver Star Ski & Sport says, “We want you to experience why we all live here,” and then walks the walk by listing places to go to try all these adrenaline-inducing activities — as well as where to eat afterward.

The store not only prides itself on providing unmatched customer service and experiences; it’s also a pretty cool place to work. Don’t just take our word for it – its retention rate speaks for itself. Employees stick around for *years* – and it’s no wonder. Staffers are all passionate about the outdoors and Silver Star works to keep that enthusiasm alive with paid ski breaks in the winter and incentives to ride bikes, both to work and in their off-hours. Sign us up for that program, please.

Now about that logo…

One of the best features of the store is its tradition of a shop pup. It started with Vidalia, the French bulldog, not the onion. Patrons of the shop loved Vidy (her easier to say nickname) that they started asking for gear with her mug. They came up with a design featuring her face for their cycling team jerseys and quickly sold out of those and t-shirts with the design. Tallulah the bulldog joined the family next, and most recently, little Azalea. Sweet Tallulah passed away last month (Vidy passed away in 2016), and now new addition Azalea is carrying the torch. You can find her in the shop most days, and featured prominently in the @SilverStarSki Instagram feed.

To visit Silver Star Ski and Sport, go to 1825 Three Kings Drive #85, at the base of the Silver Star lift at Park City resort, in the heart of the Silver Star Plaza. They are open 8-6 during the winter, 9-6 during the summer and during the off-season (End of ski season-Memorial weekend & October through Thanksgiving).
