Park City Event Guide: February 1 – 3

February 1, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR Leave a Comment

Sundance is coming to a close this weekend, and while the traffic (on foot and on wheels) will thin out, there is another huge event on its heels here in Park City – the FIS World Championships. Read on to learn how you can experience the biggest ski and snowboarding competition to happen in Utah since the 2002 Olympics.

FRIDAY, February 1

First Friday Fireworks
2:30 PM @ Canyons Village | Park City Mountain

We love this new tradition – and not just because the fireworks start (and end) early enough for the littlest ones to enjoy them! First Friday Fireworks happen, ahem, the first Friday of each month, all the way through March. There’s live music, family fun, food specials, and of course, the fireworks; the fun starts at 2:30 p.m. and you can still get the kiddos home and settled for bed right on time.

  • 2:30–5:30 PM: Live music with DJ Velvet
  • 3–5 PM: Family Après Activity: Ice sculpting demonstration and photo opportunity
  • 4:30 PM: Complimentary Donut Bar at Umbrella Bar (while supplies last)
  • 5:30 PM: Fireworks
  • 7 PM: Cabriolet lift & Frostwood gondola close

A new year brought a new name for this annual event to signal that it’s much more than just a Nordic skiing event. This year, participants can choose from classic and skate skiing, snowshoeing, or fat tire biking options.

You can try these sports out, and there will also be instruction offered! All ages and ability levels are welcome and the event is free to the community. You are asked to register in advance to reserve Nordic ski equipment, provided by White Pine Touring for $5. Storm Cycles will provide a limited number of fat tire bikes for patrons to demo during the event.

In winter, enjoy exclusive ski and snowboard access to one of North America’s largest mountain resorts, Park City Mountain. In spring, the snow melts to reveal an amazing network of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, connecting to more than 400 miles of single-track trails throughout the surrounding area.
The Colony is just 35 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport and 5 minutes to Park City’s historic Main Street, home to the Sundance Film Festival and world-class dining and shopping.
