Park City Event Guide: 2019 Fall Fun

October 8, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

Fall is officially here – but we aren’t saying the s-word just yet (despite being VERY excited for another epic Park City winter!). There are dozens of activities to do here in Park City, Summit, and Wasatch Counties (and a few we’re including that are in Salt Lake City, too!), so we thought a quick, easy guide could help. For other activities in farther corners of our state, click here & here.

ONGOING EVENTS

Park City Nursery
Haunted Forest & Pumpkin Patch

Grab your porch gourds and fall flowers – and then stroll through the classic Haunted Forest at Park City Nursery!

During operating hours, you and the fam can explore the pumpkin patch and take fall pics with the this year’s GORGEOUS fall backdrop – the colors are as bright as we’ve ever seen them here in Park City!

Scarecrow Walk
McPolin Farm

Scarecrows are out on display along the trail near the McPolin Farm! They’ll stay put through October 28.

The Pumpkin Train
Heber Valley Railroad Depot
Hop on the Heber Creeper for the annual Pumpkin Train experience! The 40-minute train ride is full of entertainment from costumed characters and music – not to mention the fresh, delicious pumpkin chocolate chip cookie you’ll be treated to toward the end of the ride.

Back at the depot, make sure you head over to see the family-friendly haunted train car (don’t forget to get your Halloween sticker). Right on down the line, you’ll see the pumpkin patch, where you can take some fun fall pictures and grab a pumpkin or two (a pumpkin is included with the purchase of your ticket). For the schedule of train departures, click here. The Pumpkin Train rolls on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, through October 30.

The Robot Zoo @ Swaner Eco Center
Through January 15

From the website:
Explore the biomechanics of complex animal robots to discover how real animals work! This exhibit reveals the magic of nature as a master engineer. Robot animals and hands-on activities illustrate fascinating real-life characteristics, such as how a chameleon changes colors and how a fly walks on the ceiling. Great for ages 4 to adult.

Cornbelly’s
Thanksgiving Point
September 27 – November 2

There’s so much to do at Cornbelly’s, it nearly needs its own blog post. From fireworks on Fridays and Saturdays to corn mazes, to the fall adventures, to a number of “Haunts” – you can count on an entire day, and then some, of action. View the full calendar HERE.

Corn Mazes
@ Cornbelly’s
Voted among the nation’s 10 Best Corn Mazes, there are four of them to try at Cornbelly’s. The 2019 World of Wizards corn maze is a special nod to Harry Potter. The labyrinth is open day & night – and is never haunted. Plan on it taking about 30 – 45 minutes, including stops for interactive games and special wizard-themed trivia.

Then, hop on the “grain train” to ride through the Candy Corn Acres Maze. There’s also a kid-friendly 5-minute maze with a “find the gummy bear” feature. Finally, the Haunted Insanity Point Maze is only for those 12 and older, and has animatronics, live spooky hauntings, and a few surprises

Fall Adventures & Haunts
@ Cornbelly’s
There are *dozens* of Fall Adventures for you to see and do at Cornbelly’s. From campfires to hayrides to pumpkin tetherball to the corn cob beach,  you may need to come back a few times to hit everything.

The Haunts include walk-through spooky setups. The four scenes vary in scary, and include The Creature, which takes you through the belly of the beast; Big Top Terror, where you’ll encounter all sorts of circus freaks; Chaos Castle, which has you feel your way through a hay maze; and Hayloft Horror, where you have to wind your way around the animals who have all gone mad in the barn.

HalloWEEK Bash & Costume Contest
Monday, October 28 @ Cornbelly’s

Wear your costume (you could win a grand prize package!) for this pre-Halloween celebration. With the price of admission, you’ll be able to participate in the costume contest (there are actually two of them – one at 5:45 p.m. and the other at 8:45 p.m.). The grand prize winner will receive 5 FREE 2019 Cornbelly’s tickets, 5 FREE Luminaria tickets and a $50 gift card to Thanksgiving Point. Other fun festivities:

  • Halloween Parade → 7:30 p.m.
  • DJ Dance Party →  5-6:30 p.m.
  • Circus Magic Show → 5:30 & 6:45 p.m.
  • Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest → 4:30 & 7 p.m.
  • Extreme Trick-or-Treating with Candy Cannon → 6:35 p.m. (cash, candy & prizes  will be… blasted out of a candy cannon)
  • Insanity Point Haunts →  7:30 p.m.
  • Halloween Fireworks → 8:30 p.m.

Pumpkin Smash
@ Cornbelly’s

November 1 & 2
Join in the somewhat aggressive destruction of unsold pumpkins – or bring your own stash – and smack the living daylights out of them with a startlingly large-looking wooden mallet.
For a comprehensive list of corn mazes all over the state, click here!

BooLights! @ Hogle Zoo
6:30 – 9:30 PM
Through October 26

Bring the kiddos to enjoy the fabulous combination of animals and lights, plus, ride on the (not-so) spooky train, see an illuminated graveyard and land of the spiders, an incandescent bat cave and a labyrinth-themed maze with puppets. To purchase your tickets, click here.

Halloween Lift Rides
Sundance Resort
Hop on Ray’s Lift for a family-friendly spooky Halloween lift ride! It takes about 45 minutes to an hour, and there are fun games, a Halloween movie at the base (weather-permitting), blankets for those who forget their own, and hot cocoa and snacks for sale.

If you decide to take a Halloween Zip Tour, a Lift Ride is included in that ticket. You can purchase your tickets online or in-person at the Ray’s Base Ticket Office. The lift rides spin through October 31 (closed Sunday the 21 and 28).

Sleepy Hollow Haunted Wagon Rides
Rocky Mountain Outfitters Midway
There are few things we can imagine spookier than a horse-drawn wagon ride through the woods of Soldier Hollow, especially when you get to listen to a narration of Washington Irving’s original short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Even scarier – the woods are frequented by the apparition of the Headless Horseman! Through October 30 – reservations are required.

Pumpkin Nights
October 10 – November 2
Utah State Fair Park

You’ll wander a half-mile walking path in the “Forbidden Pumpkin City” at Pumpkin Nights. There’s also a pirate’s cove and other fantastical lands, which are built using more than 3,000 hand-carved real and artificial pumpkins.
First, though, you’ll experience Pumpkin Central, with local food drinks, games, entertainment, and tons of photo opportunities.
There are eight difference pumpkin-themed lands, a Spirit of Pumpkins fire show, and demonstrations by professional pumpkin artists. The little ones can enjoy a scavenger hunt, a treasure dig, face painting, and a screening of Coco.

Pumpkin Days
September 27 – October 31
Wheeler Farm

This classic falls scene is one that’s perfect for the littlest ones. There’s a pumpkin patch, hay maze, cow train, and wagon rides. Pumpkin Days events at Wheeler Farm run through October 31.

Hay Maze & Pumpkin Patch
10 AM @ Kohler Creamery
Navigate a hay maze on this working dairy farm (just watch out for any cow pies), pick a pumpkin from the patch to take home, and enjoy some delicious Aggie Ice Cream! Soups & grilled cheese sandwiches are available for purchase. Runs daily through October 31.

SCHEDULED EVENTS

October 12

ArtoberFest
1 – 5 PM @ Kimball Art Center
Create leaf art, watch ceramics demonstrations, create a collaborative sculpture, and enjoy live music from the Ecker Hill String Band in this fall-inspired family event. For a $2 fee, you can paint pumpkins, create a fall suncatcher, or play games for prizes.

October 19

Witches & Wizards’ Tea
11 AM – 1 PM
Discovery Gateway

Get all dressed up in your Halloween best and head to the annual Witches and Wizards’ Tea at Discovery Gateway! Make a wizard’s wand, create a spell-binding witches’ potion, play with Boo-Bubbles, and get prepare your very own caramel apple at the caramel apple bar. FALL in Love with The Colony

September 27, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

The Colony at White Pine Canyon is beautiful through all four of the seasons we get to enjoy here in Park City, Utah, but there’s something magic about the Meadow Lakes (in Phase 5) in autumn.

We invited Realtors in the Park City community to join us as we celebrated the completion of horizontal construction and infrastructure at The Colony – a party more than 20 years in the making!

It was a party packed with Ranger tours from The Colony Sales Team…

Food from Snake Creek Grill catering…

And spectacular weather and views from Mother Nature.

We also enjoyed these stunning flowers, created by Jennie Brett.

Developer Walt Brett brought his GMC pickup to the party, which made for our favorite beverage station – ever!

Thank you to all the Realtors who joined us – we were delighted to have you!

And to those who couldn’t make it, be sure to connect with Bronson or Stephen for any information you may need.

We’re so grateful for everything you’ve done in our community – The Colony wouldn’t be where it is without YOU!

The Colony Project

September 21, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

Planning for The Colony at White Pine Canyon began back in 1993. Originally, Summit County approved a plan for 3300 units for the area.

Developer Walt Brett (of Iron Mountain Associates) had other plans, and today, there are 274 homesites planned for the project, which spans 4600 acres. About 90% of this project is open space – and always will be, thanks to preservation easements.

Does this stretch of road look at all familiar? Let us remind you of what it *used* to look like…

As the horizontal construction of The Colony at White Pine Canyon nears completion, here’s a look at what’s been accomplished since the project launched.

  • 75 bridges have been built in The Colony at White Pine Canyon.
  • 25+ miles of roads have been carved out and paved.
  • 166 homes have been built in The Colony.
  • 29 homes are currently under construction in The Colony.
  • 90% of this land will always be preserved as open space, thanks to preservation easements.

For more information about The Colony at White Pine Canyon, there’s only one place to go: The Colony Sales Team.

Park City Event Guide: Miners’ Day Parade & Celebration: Monday, September 2nd, 2019

August 29, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

This year marks our town’s 123nd celebration of Miners’ Day!

Each year, the Park City Rotary Club hosts an all-day festival of fun to honor our town’s mining heritage. Most activities and festivities happen along Historic Main Street, with the food featured at City Park. The Rotary Club estimates that more than 17,000 people enjoyed last year’s Miners’ Day merriment. Here’s the fun rundown for Monday, September 2:

7:30 – 9:30 AM – Miners’ Day Breakfast, City Park
8 AM – Miners’ Day Bark City 5k Run, City Park (bring your dog)
10:30 AM – Running of the Balls, Main Street (get there early to buy balls)
11 AM – Miners’ Day Parade, Main Street
11:30 AM – 2:30 PM – Food Trucks, City Park
11:45 AM – Music in the Park, City Park Stage – Jake & the Heist
12 – 4 PM – Fun in the Park (kids’ activities)
12:30 – 1 PM – Kids’ Games, City Park
2 – 3:30 PM – Mucking and Drilling Competition, City Park (across from the library on Park Ave.)
2:45 PM – Music in the Park, City Park Stage – The Electric Moose Band
3 – 6 PM – Skateboard Bowl Jam, Skateboard Park

7:30 – 9:30 AM →
Breakfast @ City Park
If you’re among the few who are up and at ’em before 8 a.m., you know how peaceful Park City feels at that time of the morning. So come out early – the breakfast begins at 7:30 – and enjoy some quiet time with a stack of pancakes, ham, eggs, hash browns, and more. The breakfast is provided by St. Mary’s Catholic Church and proceeds from the $5 per person feast go to help religious education programs (kids 4 and under eat for free). If you’re among the 5K runners, it’s a terrific way to fuel back up for your day of events!

8 AM →
Miners’ Day 5K @ City Park
Not beginning with breakfast? Start with the fun-run!

The Miners’ Day 5k (also known as the Bark City 5K) starts in City Park, loops through the trails, and ends right back where you started so you can grab food. The race is organized by the Park City Rotary Club. While the fast 5K course is pleasant enough, you’re encouraged to make things extra fun with a costume – and/or your dog! Strollers are also welcome; that group starts behind the other runners.

Proceeds from the 5K will be funneled back into our community in the form of a grant from the Rotary Club Park City.

10:45 AM →
World-Famous Running of the Balls @ Historic Main Street
You better get to Main Street early if you want a spot where you can actually *see* this event. It is PACKED with people. And yes, it gets its name from the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. This event, however, usually results in fewer injuries.

Anyone can “adopt” a yellow golf ball for $5 – or 5 for $20. The nearly 10,000 balls are released at the top of Main and shoot into a track. The first balls through the chute win INSANE prizes like season ski passes, hotel stays, fabulous dinners, and tons of other options. Dozens of additional prizes are given away for the close finishers. It’s no wonder people get so hyped up about this race. The best place to post up for the finish line is near the post office, and winners are posted in City Park and on the Miners’ Day website.

You can purchase your balls from any member of the Park City Rotary Club, on Historic Main Street on the day-of, and at the Park Silly Market the day before Miners’ Day!

11 AM →
Miners’ Day Parade @ Historic Main Street
The main event on Main Street for the day – this parade marches down Main, skips over to Park Ave., and finishes at City Park. It begins at 11 a.m., but if you’re running on Park City time and arrive a few minutes late you’ll likely still get to see everything!

11:30 AM →
Live Music – Changing Lanes Experience @ City Park Stage
The omnipresent Mountain Town Music is at it again, programming terrific live music for our community to enjoy together. At 11:30 a.m., you can enjoy the Changing Lanes Experience. If you’ve never seen this group, you will soon learn why they have “experience” in their name.

At 3, enjoy Memphis McCool – which can best be described as “power soul” music. The group creates all-new music in a modern take on soul and groove music.

Noon – 3 PM →
BBQ Lunch @ City Park
You can truly make this a day without having to head home at all – there are things to do, see, and eat all day long! Lunch will bring you back to City Park for a BBQ cookout courtesy of Kumbayah Kitchen. There will be beverages and brews (bring your ID, they *will* check), but bring your own blanket to enjoy the feast!

12:30 – 4 PM →
Family Fun @ City Park
If you’re going to stay out of the house all day, you’re going to need some stuff to keep the kids entertained. Luckily, Kids Races start at 12:30 p.m. in City Park. With running races, a sack race (gunny sacks provided), and a wheelbarrow race (we are cracking up just thinking about this one), there are races for little ones of all ages.

No worries, there are also bouncy houses, crafting booths, a climbing wall, a fire truck (!), and, new this year, a dunk tank! Enjoy face painting, henna tattoos, a dog & cat adoption event, a shaved-ice shack, gourmet cotton candy, and Texas Twisters (described as a cold sweet blended fruit-based drink). We can only imagine (with slight trepidation) how exhausted the kiddos will be after a day of all this fun!

2 – 3:30 PM →
Mucking & Drilling Competition @ Skateboard Park parking lot
Wondering where the actual “miner” activities are in Miners’ Day? Show up at City Park for Mucking & Drilling and you won’t be in the dark anymore. Competitors come from all around the Mountain West to compete!

Mucking is loading ore into an ore cart (using heavy machinery), and then dumping it as quickly as possible. A timer watches this carefully.

Drilling is when the competitors “manhandle” a huge compressed-air hammer drill and hoses to put two deep holes into a slab of rock in the shortest amount of time.

We’re told you need to arrive early to get a spot on the bleachers – and best of all, the event is free!

3 – 6 PM →
Skateboard Bowl Jam @ Skateboard Park
If skateboarding is more your speed, there’s also a competition for you to watch in that world! The contest is for both amateurs and pros, with prizes for each division. You *d0* need to register in advance, and helmets are required. You can find more information here.

No wonder Miners’ Day has been going strong for 123 years. Get out there (by riding the free bus or your bike!) and have fun!
