Travel + Leisure Names Park City One of the Best Ski Towns.
Utah skiing, and specifically Park City, is garnering more accolades as this season rolls along. Last week Travel + Leisure Magazine named Park City as one of America’s best Ski Towns. This comes on the heels of all three of the Park City area resorts doing very well in the ski publication rankings this year. To read more on this latest compliment, click HERE.
The 2012/13 Yurt Menu
The standard menu for this year was expanded and will require an additional charge. While always including past grill favorites, the new menu will now include kid-friendly chicken fingers. There will be weekend menu items that will change every day, including pastas, prime rib, Philly beef steak, fish tacos, barbecue and other specialty items.
See you at The Yurt!
The Colony Yurt Opening for the 2012/13 Winter Season!
Colony owners can convene with nature at Iron Mountain Associates’ Yurt, slated to open in time for the holidays, provided ample snowfall allows for the operation of the Iron Mountain Lift.
Following the planned holiday dates of December 21-23 and December 27-January 6, the yurt will be available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until the end of the season.
Springboarding from the popularity and success of the Yurt, Iron Mountain Associates is considering the development of a permanent facility to serve as a Colony Club/restaurant. In exploring the best avenues for creating the most positive Colony owner and guest experience, we will be changing the format of the Yurt this winter.
As in previous years, Fridays will feature soup, salad, cookies, plus hot and cold drinks provided by IMA. On the weekends – and special weeks when the Yurt is open for additional days – the menu will be expanded, which will require an additional charge. While always including past favorites, such as salads, chicken and tilapia sandwiches, and grilled favorites, the new menu will include kid-friendly chicken fingers. There will be weekend menu items that will change every day, including pastas, prime rib, Philly beef steak, fish tacos, barbecue and other specialty items.
For your convenience, meal charges and gratuity can be paid by credit card, checks or cash. IMA will host the expanded meal free of charge during the initial holiday operation period (December 21 – January 6). As a reminder, the Yurt is for the enjoyment of IMA guests, Colony Owners, their immediate family and their accompanied guests. In the event that you have guests in town who you would like to have visit the Yurt unaccompanied, please provide IMA with advance notice by contacting us at yurt@thecolonywpc.com. This year, we have increased the availability of seating in the Yurt, and hope to comfortably accommodate everyone when they arrive. Please be considerate of your neighbors and be cognizant of seating needs and over crowding.
Please note: Dogs are not allowed at the Yurt, including on the outside deck, so we respectfully request owners and guests leave their dogs at home.
The Yurt is available for private and special events, with reservations arranged by contacting Steve Richardson at Gateway Catering – (435) 640-9475, srich@allwest.net, or at our general Yurt email address: yurt@thecolonywpc.com.
We look forward to seeing you!
Heli-Ski from The Colony!
When it comes to Colony owner benefits, Iron Mountain Associates is dedicated to creating exclusive experiences that elevate and enhance current offerings, making every visit even more special than the last. IMA recognizes that the convenience of getting out into the Wasatch backcountry via helicopter for a day is unique to our community, and is a benefit that should be explored.
IMA is committed to taking each experience to the next level, so we have negotiated the ability to customize a trip for you and a select few of your guests, on most winter dates, with 48-hours notice – a VERY special opportunity that is now available to Colony owners.
Wasatch Powderbird Guides (WPG) has partnered with the Colony to facilitate backcountry ski trips for Colony owners utilizing their helicopter service. You can “cherry pick” around the snow conditions to ensure a day in the backcountry that will give you the ultimate skiing/boarding experience, plus the benefits of “Private Group” status, as explained below.
Helicopter skiing is not for everyone, you need to be an accomplished skier with powder skiing experience, but if you have the skill it is the most enjoyable and exclusive skiing there is. WPG will help you evaluate your ability to determine if this is for you.
Though the helicopter is shared, a Private Group gets priority benefits, such as first flight to the backcountry, small group status, and you ski as your own group, at your own pace.
Because Colony owners prefer a certain caliber of experience, we overwhelmingly recommend the Private Group, as the pricing is based on helicopter flight time, resulting in an “á la carte” product that provides great opportunity and flexibility. Private groups offer a very exclusive experience with two guides for three guests. Private Groups are billed by the flight hour, and require a minimum of one hour per group. The fee is $6,600 per flight hour which includes approximately 8 to 10 flights.
If you have a bigger group, up to 8 people, it can be split into two loads of up to four each and still include two guides. One additional benefit of the Private Group is absolute convenience – the helicopter can pick you up right from The Colony, and you can spend the day skiing as leisurely or aggressively as you like.
Even though you may be able to sign up for a Private Group most days 48 hours in advance, early booking is still encouraged. One of the biggest issues WPG has is that the higher-end products are in greatest demand and fill up quickly. As soon as you know when you want to go contact WPG for a reservation.
If you are not interested in a Private Group you can join WPG’s Premium Operations as an individual or with a few of your friends and they will make every effort to accommodate you even on short notice. Although, the sooner you book the better the chance you have of getting a seat for a great day of backcountry skiing. The standard booking in the Premium Operation for a fixed seven-flight day is $1,260 – $1,330 per person.
We hope that this benefit of Colony ownership is something that many of you can enjoy. For reservations or additional information, please email info@powderbird.com or call (801) 742-2800 and be sure to mention you are a Colony resident.
