Canyons Resort Adds a New Ranking to its List
Fans of Park City have always known the gem their Wasatch Mountain retreat has become. But with all three local resorts ranked among the top 10 in North America, the rest of the world will soon know, as well.
And for Canyons Resort, the recognition is a long time coming.
More than 20,000 skiers and snowboards have spoken, and Canyons Resort now joins Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort among the Top 10 resorts in North America, as rated by the readers of Ski Magazine.
Long lauded for its expansive and varied terrain, Canyons Resort has delivered on its much-anticipated improvements over the past few years, hoping to gain the respect and recognition readily bestowed upon Park City’s other two world-class ski resorts.
But the resort has edged out its Park City neighbors in earning a No. 4 spot on Outside Magazine’s ranking of the top 40 Ski Resorts in North America. Other top spots were nabbed by Squaw Valley at No. 1, Vail at No. 2, Whistler at No. 3 and Mammoth at No. 5.
“Thanks to more than 350 inches of average annual snowfall and lots of powder days, Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah, is a grade-A destination for the most dedicated of skiers,” said Nicholas Jackson, Outside’s Digital Editorial Director. “But it ended up very high on our final list-fourth out of the 40 that made the cut-because, with high scores in our affordability, safety, and hospitality categories, it’s an attractive travel destination for anyone just looking to get away.”
The Outside rankings placed Park City Mountain Resort at No. 7, and Deer Valley Resort at No. 15, while SKI Magazine readers elevated PCMR to the No. 4 spot (up from No. 6 last year), and Deer Valley fell to No. 2 after sitting atop the list for an impressive six consecutive years.
It’s Canyons’ climb up the leaderboard that has grabbed the most attention, growing out of its humble beginnings as Park West ski area into a world-class destination boasting on-mountain amenities that stand shoulder-to-shoulder with resorts across the globe. This distinction can only increase the traffic and interest in Park City, and the fantastic opportunities of which IMA is proud to be a part.
