FEATURED: Arriving Home in The Colony Feels Like a True Departure

June 27, 2019 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

PREPARE FOR TAKEOFF

A picture of The Colony at White Pine Canyon is worth a thousand words. A visit will leave you speechless. The concept of this unique alpine escape is special. The private, ski-in/ski-out, gated preserve is nestled in the heart of one of North America’s largest ski and snowboard resorts, in the town of Park City, Utah, site of dozens of 2002 Winter Olympics events.

From the instant your feet touch this magnificent land and you fill your lungs with this pristine alpine air, you’ll understand that the only way to get away from it all is to live in the middle of it all. Arriving at The Colony feels like a true departure.

A COOL, COOL SUMMER AT THE COLONY

There are many reasons to head for the mountains in the summer. Cool mountain air, breathtaking vistas, massive aspen groves, bubbling streams, abundant wildlife, and rich mountain flora are just a few of nature’s contributions to this special place.

The Colony is secluded while being very accessible; it’s just 35 miles from Salt Lake International Airport, and 22 miles from Heber Valley Airport, perfect for private jet travel. Once you are settled into your Colony retreat, you’re a mere five miles to Park City’s Historic Main Street, home to the Sundance Film Festival, and world-class dining and shopping.

AIR, LAND, AND WATER

Air: Pack your picnic basket and enjoy the dozens of open-air concerts held around The Colony throughout the warm-weather months. Enjoy a sunrise hot air balloon ride that will give you an incredibly unique way to take in miles of the Park City landscape. An added bonus is the annual Autumn Aloft hot air balloon festival, held each September in Park City.

Land: Take just a few steps outside your home to set off on a hike, bike, or horseback ride, either on the numerous private trails sprinkled among the 274 homesites scattered over the 4,600 acres of the development–or along the hundreds of miles of trails open to the public.

In the summer months, enjoy the selections at Park City’s weekly Wednesday Farmer’s Market and the Park Silly Sunday Market. The July celebration of America’s birthday in Park City stretches into days, not hours. Labor Day is celebrated as Miner’s Day, where thousands congregate in the streets of Park City for a parade and festivities commemorating the area’s rich mining history.

Water: Streams, waterfalls, lakes, and ponds can be found throughout The Colony. Boating, paddle-boarding, kayaking, white water rafting, and fly fishing opportunities abound at the numerous lakes and on the Weber and Provo Rivers.

WINTER BREAK

The stunning summers help you prepare for the epic winters. The Park City Mountain Resort ski day begins and ends at the back door for Colony homeowners. With an average snowfall of 25 feet per year, and 350+ inches last winter, you can bet skiers and boarders are not wasting any time enjoying the more than 7,300 acres of winter magic in-bounds. Among those acres, there are 348 trails, 41 lifts, 13 bowls, 8 terrain parks, and 2 base villages to enjoy.

Our state, known for the best snow on earth, has already hosted one set of Winter Games. The facilities, venues, and transportation systems built for the 2002 Olympics have been so meticulously maintained and upgraded, Utah has been selected by the United States Olympic Committee for a potential 2030 Winter Games bid. The move would inject even more momentum into Utah’s real estate market, which is the number-one state in house price appreciation since 1991 (up 321.57% since Q1, 1991, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency). Not only that, but The Colony homes are directly in the middle of Park City’s venues – and all of the Olympic action.

THE NEXT GREAT ESCAPE: DREAM LOTS ON DREAM RIDGE

It’s an accepted fact that this land is special. And the newest releases in The Colony–the Dream Lots–are in a category of their very own. They are the most spectacular homesites ever offered in The Colony, and there are only two of them.

Live the alpine dream year-round from your dream home in a Dream Lot, perched atop Dream Ridge, which feels like your own personal mountain. The Dream Lots offer 360º perspectives: of Park City Mountain, territorial down-valley views, and the majestic Uinta Range ridgeline. These unparalleled homesites are partially wooded with lush aspen groves and evergreens, offering, relatively flat building envelopes and unmatched privacy.

A JOURNEY FOR THE AGES

The current Colony Master Plan started to evolve in 1992. But the real story began when John George Condas arrived at Ellis Island in 1903 and headed west. He settled in Utah and was one of the region’s providers of food for the large mining population. Park City’s cool summers offered an ideal habitat for Condas’s large sheep herds and they wandered the hills from June to November. It has been critical to the project that the Condas family legacy lives on today. The developer and each new Colony owner are committed to being good stewards of the land, through the master planning, where the landscape remains the inspiration, and through the philosophy that “less is more.” Historical landmarks of the Condas family settlement can be found throughout the development and a number of sites have remains of small sheepherders’ shelters. There are also quite a few massive aspen trees carved with the previous inhabitants’ initials–dating back to the early 1900s–documenting their presence.

The devotion to this land is such that nearly 90% of the development’s 4,600 acres will remain pristine and untouched open space, protected with preservation easements. Current offerings average more than seven acres per lot, the largest to be found within just about any private, gated, ski-in/ski-out community in the world.

By revealing the past instead of burying it, the Commission hoped to pave the way to a peaceful future.

Park City Nonprofit Highlight: Bill White Farms

November 28, 2018 by Shelby Hintze, Colony PR

For most of us, what we know about farms comes from movies and books. From the idyllic setup in Charlotte’s Web to the corporate farms featured in the documentary Food Inc., more often than not, we have no idea what it takes to grow and cultivate real produce and livestock. Bill White Farms is hoping to change that.

For decades, Bill White has operated some of the most recognizable restaurants in Park City – eight of them! – ranging from casual to fine dining. And now, the Bill White Restaurant Group is looking to give back to the community. After many years of trying, Bill White purchased a piece of property directory off of State Highway 224 and launched Bill White Farms—a 501(c) nonprofit.

The farm raises livestock—chickens, turkeys, cows, pigs and more—grows dozens of different crops, farms fish, and even has 300,000 bees to keep the whole operation moving. The farm uses a practice it calls Earthganic. The farm strives to work with the earth, not against it, to bring out the best food it has to offer.

When it comes to sustainability, here’s one example of how everything works together: “The compostable material is fed to the chickens, which creates highly nutritious and flavorful eggs.  The restaurant scraps are also thrown into compost trays, where worms turn it into highly nutritious soil, which is then used to fertilize the crops, and [the worms] will eventually be used to feed the fish farm- again creating natural, organic, and flavorful food.”

Now this is lovely and sounds delicious, but how does the organization work to achieve its “number one focus [of] healing the earth”? It does so in four distinct ways.

First, it provides classes to clients at the Christian Center of Park City. We’ve told you about the CCPC’s big new community center, and one of the features there is a kitchen, perfect for cooking demos. The farm teaches free classes there to help people learn to make delicious, healthy and affordable meals the whole family will eat.

Next, it donates fundraising dinners to other nonprofits. The farm will provide the food, the location, and the serving staff, leaving the nonprofit with zero overhead costs and all the proceeds. Last year, the farm hosted a dinner for the Summit Land Conservancy with the goal of raising $200,000. 80% of the food served was grown right there on the farm—enough to feed 50 guests.

The farm also offers tours specifically geared to help community members learn about sustainable farming. The earth is changing and the farm wants to show farmers, community leaders, and anyone interested in the best ways to use biology, not chemicals, to grow food. The free tours demonstrate how to get back to the natural processes that have grown food for centuries and will allow us to continue eating healthy and nutritious produce in the years to come.

And finally, any food that is left goes to the CCPC food pantry. Fresh food can be hard to come by at a food pantry but it is incredibly important, especially when it comes to creating lifelong habits of health – not to mention, encouraging children to eat healthfully. The farm donates produce, eggs and more to the pantry through its Farm-to-Pantry program.

Just like the crops, the farm is growing and evolving. We can’t wait to see what happens next!

Park City Event Guide: Opening Day @ Park City Mountain

November 20, 2018 by Molly Miller, Colony PR

The wait is OVER and opening day is (just about) here! Both Park City Mountain Resort villages (Park City Mountain and Canyons) will open for winter 2018 | 2019 operations at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21. But don’t wait till 9 a.m. to head over, there are a few things popping beforehand at each village – take a look at the celebrations, plus, get a glimpse of what’s new and improved this year…

NEW THIS YEAR
High Meadow Park: Brand-New Dedicated Ski & Snowboard Learning Area
Park City Mountain has always been the place to go to enjoy a comfortable learning environment for beginners of any age.

That remains the same, but this year, there is going to be a whole new area in which to learn and where beginners, kids, and families will experience a whole new level of comfort.

The brand-new High Meadow Park is an entire dedicated area for learning, with gentle terrain and new snowmaking, which will create terrific surfaces for new skiers and snowboarders. The brand-new Candy Cabin offers a place to take a rest and grab a snack, and getting there easy, too – there’s a new, detachable high-speed four-passenger lift.

Mid-Mountain Lodge: A New Take On The Classic
This classic spot, the Mid-Mountain Lodge, is beloved by just about everyone who has ever clomped in its door.

The building is more than 120 years old and originally functioned as a miners’ boarding house. The renovation pays tribute to our community’s rich mining heritage and offers a cozy spot to warm up and fill up.

Additional indoor seating is welcome news to those among us who have waited, snow dripping off our boots, to enjoy the food and a beverage. There’s also an upgraded dining area, newly “crafted chef-driven menus,” and a full-service bar.

Cloud Dine: Now With More Seating To Take In The Views

More than 200 seats have been added to this modern bistro, which sits right on top of a Wasatch Range ridgeline, so guests here get to sit back and take in the unbelievable views. This restaurant is known for “foodie-approved” cuisine and its spectacular presentation, and now, there’s even more room to enjoy all of it.

Expanded Snowmaking & Grooming
Most of the mountain will be open to exploration even earlier thanks to new snowmaking capabilities on Red Pine Road, a major connector trail off of Tombstone Express. More snow means the trail will open earlier in the season and provide access to even more terrain across the mountain.

AT THE COLONY

More than 50% of the Park City Mountain’s Canyons Village terrain can be found within the boundaries here at The Colony. Even better, the high-speed Quicksilver Gondola, which zips riders from one side of the enormous resort to the other in mere moments, is also inside The Colony. The Gondola is directly accessible for Colony homeowners in possession of a lift ticket – which means that the entirety of the Park City Mountain land is right outside the door – and at their ski tips.

This unmatched access means skiers and snowboarders enjoy everything from first tracks on a powder day to perfect corduroy groomers (more than 120 trails are groomed each night) throughout the season. Also easily accessible for owners – The Colony’s own private seasonal Yurt, where lunch is served, owners and friends can warm up during the day, and aprés and dinner events can be enjoyed.

For more information on the unique ski-in/ski-out access here at The Colony, please be sure to reach out to our Sales Team!

The Colony at White Pine Canyon is the largest gated ski-in / ski-out community in the United States. Our land spans 4600 acres, and approximately 90% of it will always be preserved as open space.
In winter, enjoy exclusive ski and snowboard access to one of North America’s largest mountain resorts, Park City Mountain. In spring, the snow melts to reveal an amazing network of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, connecting to more than 400 miles of single-track trails throughout the surrounding area.
The Colony is just 35 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport and 5 minutes to Park City’s historic Main Street, home to the Sundance Film Festival and world-class dining and shopping.

Summer’s not going to be fashionably late this year—she’s already sneaking in. The trails are greening up, wildflowers are stretching, and the puffy coats are officially in storage. Who’s ready for long hikes and longer days?
